AUA Announces New Positions To Support Global Strategy

The American Urological Association (AUA) today announced a modernized structure to better align its international growth with its global footprint and to further develop wide-reaching collaborations and opportunities.
Three new Assistant Secretary positions, each with a distinct global geographic region of responsibility, have been approved by the AUA Board of Directors to support this expanded structure. Sam S. Chang, MD, MBA; Aseem R. Shukla, MD; and Angela B. Smith, MD, MS, FACS have each been appointed to fill these roles.
As Assistant Secretaries, Drs. Chang, Shukla and Smith will play critical roles supporting the AUA Secretary in shaping and executing on the Association's international strategy, programming and activities. By fully leveraging the AUA's global reach and an influence tremendously respected throughout the world, each will assist implementing the AUA's International Education Plan and identifying new opportunities with national and multi-national urological societies. Additionally, they will work to maintain relationships with key urologists and other strategic partners across the globe, participate in the AUA's Annual Meeting and serve as section editors for the AUA publication, AUANews. These positions are a reflection of the continuity and foundation Inderbir Gill, MD, established during his tenure as AUA's Chair of Global Initiatives. Dr. Gill completed his term on December 31, 2017.
Dr. Smith will oversee the AUA's partnerships in Latin America and the Caribbean. She is Assistant Professor of Urology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
