On March 6, SWIU and Boston Scientific hosted a roundtable event in Chicago that included 30 women urologists across the area! SWIU, with the assistance of Boston Scientific, will continue to host events at this year’s AUA Section meetings. Keep you eyes out for invitations for your section’s event.

SWIU Running Matching Campaign for ACLU Through April 15

SWIU is running a matching donation campaign for the ACLU to support women’s access to reproduction services at the state and federal level from January 15 to April 15. SWIU will match all donations up to $5,000.

SWIU Issues Statement on Recent Supreme Court Decision Concerning Reproductive Rights

The Society of Women in Urology (SWIU) opposes the Supreme Court decision to limit reproductive freedom by overturning Roe vs. Wade. Furthermore, we condemn government interference in the clinical practice of medicine. Physicians and surgeons must feel free and safe, to practice evidence-based medicine without fear of criminal or civil prosecution.

American Urological Association Honors Smith with Gold Cystoscope Award

The American Urological Association presented Angela B. Smith, MD, MS, FACS, director of urologic oncology at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and associate professor of urology in the UNC School of Medicine, with the 2022 Gold Cystoscope Award, an award presented annually to a urologist distinguished by outstanding contributions to the field of urology.

Bobbilynn Hawkins, a Trailblazer in Urology, Retires

SWIU would like to recognize Dr. Bobbilynn Hawkins, the nation’s first African-American full professor of urology and the first female urologist in the US Army upon her retirement from Augusta University and the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. She spent over 20 years in the military and 10 years at Augusta University.

New Online Course for Urology Researchers Seeking NIH Funding
